But the couple’s soaring happiness came crashing down in 1986 when a devastating tragedy struck. Their 13-year-old daughter, Jennifer, was killed in a car accident — a loss that shattered both George and Norma. Unable to face public questions about her death, George quietly withdrew from interviews. Norma, drowning in grief yet determined to honor her daughter’s memory, co-founded the Jennifer Lynn Strait Foundation to support children in need.
Despite the unimaginable pain, George channeled his grief into music. Between 1986 and 1989, he delivered 11 straight number-one hits, eventually surpassing Conway Twitty’s all-time record.
